IC Information:
Name: Carol Susan Jane Danvers || Ms. Marvel
Fandom: Marvel Comics
Timeline: New Avengers volume 2, issue 1 (Heroic Age)
Age: 30
Appearance:
Carol is basically an Amazon, standing at 5'11" and weighing 145 pounds. Her frame is solid and muscular, but not enough to make her look bulky, due to time spent in the military and constant physical activity. She has long blonde that is for the most part straight and blue eyes. Her costume is basically a black swimsuit with a lightning bolt on it, thigh high boots, gloves and a red sash around her waist. When out of costume she pretty much wears whatever's comfortable, usually t-shirts and jeans.

Abilities:
-Superhuman strength: She is typically able to lift and hold about 50 tons of weight. When used with her other powers she can increase her own strength so she is able to lift a maximum of 100 tons.

-Superhuman speed: Capable of running or flying at extremely high speeds that a normal human isn't able to achieve. There is no maximum measure for how fast she can go, but in the past she's been shown to make a 700 mile trip in about two hours while flying at top speed.

-Superhuman durability: Her body tissues are harder than an average human, making her very difficult to injure. Bullets bounce right off of her, she can take extremely hard hits without getting injured, fall from great heights and survive, survive in extremely high temperatures and even survive explosions. In the past she's also been able to make it in and out of the Earth's atmosphere without much trouble. She also heals much faster than a normal human when she's injured.

-Superhuman agility: Her reflexes, balance and coordination are enhanced like more of her body's abilities. They are described as being well above that of even the most skilled athlete.

-Flight: She can fly at extremely high speeds, about the same as an average jet, while on Earth. Her flight is slowed a bit while in space but is still enough for her to be able to get around.

-Molecular control: She can manipulate the energy in her body to change back and forth between her costume and normal clothes instantly. She even has full control over what the clothes she changes into from her costume look like, meaning she can instantly have just about any outfit she wants.

-Photon blasts: She can concentrate energy in her hands and fingertips, turning it into powerful blasts. This is usually her main mode of combat.

-Energy absorption: Her body is capable of temporarily absorbing several types of energy (electricity, nuclear energy, etc.) and using that energy to enhance her own abilities, such as her strength. She can also take this energy and throw it right back at the person who threw it at her in the form of enhanced energy blasts.

-Multilingual: Carol is fluent in several languages including English, Russian, Arabic and at one point spoke Chinese, though she herself says she's rusty. She can also speak the languages of the Kree and Shi'ar alien races. On top of that, she has a limited vocabulary in several other unnamed languages.

-Expert pilot: She was trained by the United States Air force and can fly several different types of planes. These includes military fighters, jets and several kinds of alien ships.

-Military combat training: While in the military she was trained in several different types of hand to hand combat. These include boxing, Brazilian jujitsu, muay thai, judo and escrima. She is also trained in the use of firearms and other military issue weaponry.

Personality:
To put it mildly, Carol is just a little bit ridiculous. She has a very strong silly side that causes her to sometimes do things that are a little over the top. Things like getting out her laptop and playing Bejeweled when she should be setting up her office or naming her cat after Chewbacca. She's the one who's usually making jokes during fights with criminals or otherwise saying silly things, like calling a criminal rude for punching her while she was on the phone or accusing them of ruining her costume. She just tries to enjoy herself when on routine calls like bank robberies of small time criminals waving weapons around. She enjoys her job and it shows in how relaxed and almost comical she can be while doing it.

On the other hand, she's also able to be serious when the situation calls for it. If something big is going down, a war or an alien invasion, she is capable of setting the joking and humor aside to do what needs to be done. Making sure the problem is contained and any civilians are safe is always priority number one. When something big goes down she is focused on that and that only, anything else will just have to wait. She wants to be the best hero that she can possibly be and that means getting the job done. Even if it means she might get hurt or destroy some property, as long as things work out in the end and she keeps others safe that's all that matters. Sometimes she's a little too sure of herself or she rushes in without thinking but when she realizes she's done that she tries to step back and think things out better. Generally though she manages to get through it and do what she needs to do. It may not always be done in the cleanest or most efficient or even the safest way, but she does it.

That's not to say that she always keeps her head in bad situations because she doesn't. She tries her hardest but sometimes she just does things that may not be the smartest choices. She has a bit of a temper and every so often that ends up controlling her, causing her to make mistakes and sometimes kill a villain or two. She tries to keep her head clear, to plan things out, but sometimes she just gets so worked up that she just rushes in and blows things up. She's aware that she does this and she's working on it. She loses her temper in normal situations too so if someone makes her mad, you'll know right away. The only good thing about this is that she at least doesn't hide things. She tells it like it is and you always know where you stand with her. Even if you're one of her friends, who she loves to death, she will tell you how she really feels.

She's an open book who is just sort of terrible at hiding her feelings, especially the really strong ones. If she's angry, you will know right away. If she's sad, you will know right away. If she's happy, you will know right away. She's just not someone who can lock her feelings away, she has to let them out and has to talk about them. That's not to say that she actually deals with these feelings well because sometimes she just really doesn't. Sometimes she's prone to do things like locking herself in a room to cry, punching people in the face, blasting people in the crotch, running off into space so she doesn't have to deal with anything or sleeping with teammates because she just wants to forget about things for a while. She's made some pretty poor decisions due to her emotions, she knows that, and it's another thing she's working on. She's also the kind of person who is always questioning if they have the kind of life they want, if they're doing things right, if they need to change, but she always ends up deciding that she's happy with the way things are after thinking about it for a while.

She tries hard to be a good person and cares a lot about what people think of her, though that still doesn't keep her from doing what she thinks is right. Sometimes she does unpopular things because she knows it's what she has to do and still gets upset later when people get angry at her. In the past she's had to do things like arresting friends, only to later be very hurt when said friends were angry at her and going so far as letting them go. She just wants the world to be a better place and for everyone to be happy, even though she knows that's probably not really possible. It hurts her when her decisions upset people but, at the same time, she has to do what's right. As long as things are right and just, even if other people don't see it that way, everything is okay. She can always work on making the people she's upset feel better when all is said and done.

On top of this, she tends to care about things very intensely, whether it be another person or a cause. Her friends are very important to her and she is fiercely protective of them. The closer she is to them, the more she'd be willing to do to help them. People who hurt those she's close to will not be tolerated and she isn't afraid to punish anyone who crosses that line. She's the kind of person who punches a bad guy in the face after he surrenders just because he kidnapped one of her close friends. The point being, Carol really loves her friends and it's a bad idea to mess with them.

History:
Carol was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Joseph Danvers and his wife Marie. She was the oldest of three children and the only girl in the family. During her childhood, her brothers got most of the attention from her father, who was a contractor and a very stereotypical "man's man". He didn't know how to relate to his daughter and so did the easiest thing by ignoring her. This led to her trying extra hard just to get his attention, competing with and often besting her brothers. She insisted on working just as hard as them, since hard work was something that her father valued very highly. By the time they were all teenagers her grades were the best out of the three and she had big dreams of becoming an astronaut. When she was getting ready to graduate, financial difficulties hit the family and her parents could only afford to send one child to college.

Her father, believing that a woman belonged in the home, decided to send his oldest son to college instead of Carol even though she had much better grades. When Carol argued his decision he told her that college wasn't necessary for her and that she should just find a nice husband instead. Angry at being told this she left the house and went for a walk. While she was out she saw a poster on the wall of a building advertising women in the Air Force, saying that the Air Force would pay for her schooling. She returned home after that and things went mostly back to normal. She graduated from high school at the top of her class and took a sales job that summer. A few months after graduating she turned eighteen and she quite her sales job, joining the Air Force instead.

She quickly rose to the top of her air force class and gained her bachelor's degree. She started doing missions for the air force, including one specific one in Afghanistan which was actually a demonstration for billionaire Tony Stark. While she was up in the air, her plane was shot down and she was injured. She spent several days unconscious, only to wake up to find that she had been taken captive by a terrorist named Ghazi Rashid. He wanted information on a top secret weapon program known as Ascension, which the CIA was keeping secret and he believed Carol knew about. He kept her prisoner for several days, torturing her and demanding answers which she refused to give him. Eventually she broke out and killed Rashid, escaping into the city where she was rescued.

While in a hospital in Afghanistan she met a CIA agent named Michael Rossi who got her back to America. She left the air force with his encouragement and joined the intelligence branch instead. She worked several missions with the CIA alongside Rossi, with whom she became very close and eventually started dating. She was even captured in Russia once but was rescued by several other CIA agents including Rossi. Unfortunately, while on a mission in Berlin, Rossi was killed by another CIA agent. The event ruined Carol's enthusiasm for espionage and she took a position as the youngest security chief in history at a NASA base in Cape Canaveral.

She became very invested in the politics of the Kree alien race while doing this job, eventually meeting a Kree soldier named Mar-Vell. The next few months after she met him were basically a disaster for her and her career, including being kidnapped by an alien robot and hospitalized by a mind controlled Iron Man. Her superiors began questioning why she hadn't been able to stop any of these things from happening and she was demoted, all while getting closer to Mar-Vell. The final straw was when she was kidnapped by the alien Yon-Rogg and used as bait to lure Mar-Vell into battle.

During the battle between the two she was knocked into a broken Kree weapon and was zapped by it, altering her DNA and essentially making her half-Kree. She was unaware of this change at the time though and after getting out of the hospital yet again, she was demoted down to a plain security guard. Unable to watch her career plummet any further, she resigned from NASA. Her next course of action was to write an expose on NASA that became a best seller though in the process she ruined many of her military connections. This book also opened many doors for her in the writing world and she edited several articles for magazines like Rolling Stone. The minor celebrity status she gained earned her a spot as the editor of the Daily Bugle's magazie, Woman, in New York.

This is about the time her powers surfaced and she started fighting crime as Ms. Marvel, though she wasn't aware she was doing it. As Carol she would get bad migraines and pass out, transforming into Ms. Marvel while she was unconscious and going to fight crime. As Ms. Marvel, she had no idea of her past and only knew that she was a Kree warrior. This began effecting her job and her personal relationships, causing her to miss important meetings and walk out on lunches with friends. Eventually she began to think she was going crazy and started seeing a therapist, Michael Barnett. He was the one to discover this change after witnessing it first hand and informed her of it. She struggled to accept it as truth for a while after this and even viewed herself and Ms. Marvel as separate people. It took months and an interference by an inter dimensional witch for her to accept that she and Ms. Marvel were one in the same but when she did the migraines she was experiencing went away. Everything felt a lot clearer to her and she fully embraced her new life as a superhero, working with high profile people like Spiderman and the Avengers.

Unfortunately, the damage to her career had been done and she was fired from her position as Woman editor. Even with the dismissal from her job she felt like her life finally made sense, that she finally had a purpose. She spent several months after that fighting crime in New York, tangling with the mad scientist mega corporation Advanced Idea Mechanics and making an enemy of the evil mutant Mystique along the way. After working several cases with the Avengers she was asked to join them and she accepted. She moved into Avengers Mansion and began fighting crime with the team, getting noticed all around the city by people who loved and hated the Avengers. Things were good for her, for a while at least. It was also around this time that Michael Barnett, her past therapist and current boyfriend, was murdered by Mystique. After this event, while she was flying to visit a fellow Avenger, she was kidnapped by the son of the demon Immortus and taken to Limbo. While there the demon, Marcus, charmed her and convinced her to sleep with him. He then erased her memories of the whole ordeal and returned her to exactly the point he had kidnapped her from so it was like it had never happened.

Not long after that, Carol became pregnant and had no idea how it had happened. In one day she was already seven months pregnant and by the next she had given birth to a baby boy. The child grew into a full grown man in a matter of days and revealed that he was Marcus, the son of Immortus. He had been trapped in Limbo by his father and had used Carol's body as a vessel for his escape. After revealing this to her and the Avengers he manipulated Carol into believing she loved him and took her back to Limbo. The Avengers did nothing to stop this and in fact were supportive of Carol's decision to go with Marcus. However, it turned out that Marcus aged at an accelerated rate while in Limbo. In a matter of days he died of old age and the manipulation he had used on Carol was broken. She used to time travelling equipment that Marcus had used to bring her to Limbo in the first place and returned home. She angrily confronted the Avengers when she got back for not stopping Marcus. Unsatisfied with their apologies she left the team and relocated to San Francisco.

Mystique discovered she was there and sent one of the mutants working for her, Rogue, after Carol. During their fight Rogue used her powers to steal Carol's, draining her of not only everything that made her Ms. Marvel but her memories of her past as well. She then tried to murder Carol but shoving her off the Golden Gate Bridge and into the water below. Carol was rescued from the water by Spiderwoman who took her to the X-Men's headquarters. Their leader, Professor X, fixed the damage that Rogue had done to Carol's mind by restoring both her memories and her powers. Unfortunately, he could not restore the emotions connected to those memories so she was left with no feelings about her past. After this she joined the X-Men for a time, until she was captured by the alien race the Brood. The Brood experimented on her and left her with powerful cosmic abilities. When she escaped she changed her name to Binary to reflect her new powers and left the Earth, feeling no emotional connection to it anymore. She joined the Starjammers, a group of space adventurers for several years.

Eventually she returned to Earth and completely depleted her Binary powers in order to keep the sun from exploding. She returned to the Avengers, recuperating from depleting her powers at the mansion and changing her name again. This time she was known as Warbird and she went back to fighting alongside the Avengers just like she had before. After all the trauma she had suffered in recent years though, she had started relying on alcohol to make herself feel better. Eventually her alcoholism began effecting her crime fighting and her teammates noticed. Angry and paranoid of being forced to leave the team when she was confronted with it confronted Iron Man while drunk. She intended to fight him but was sidetracked from this when a bigger threat surfaced. Eventually she quit the team again before they could demote her and moved back in with her parents. Iron Man visited her at their home and convinced her to join Alcoholics Anonymous with him as her sponsor. She overcame her alcoholism and rejoined the Avengers, at some point picking the Ms. Marvel name back up.

Things were normal for the Avengers until one of their members, the Scarlet Witch, suffered an emotional breakdown and turned against the team. What followed was several months of chaos, including the deaths of several Avengers members and the disbanding of the team. Wanda's powers went out of control and she created a false reality in which mutants ruled. The false reality merged with actual reality and effected every single one of the Avengers. Carol saw herself as the most popular hero on Earth and decided that was what she really wanted to be once the false reality was broken. She broke away from the Avengers yet again to try her hand at being a solo hero, hoping to achieve her goal of being the best of the best. She worked alongside the New Avengers at this time but refused to officially join. She didn't think it was possible to become the best hero there was when she was associated with a team.

When the Civil War broke out not long after that, she sided with Iron Man and supported the Superhuman Registration Act. She became one of Iron Man's police officers during the war. Her job was to track down and arrest unregistered heroes, which led to her separating a mother and child. This along with having to fight against some of her closest friends led her to question the point of the war and everything they were doing. The war ended when Captain America surrendered to Iron Man's forces, not wanting the fighting to continue. He was placed in prison and tried for treason. Meanwhile, Iron Man started up the Initiative, which placed superhero teams in all 50 states. Carol was part of the New York team, Iron Man's new Mighty Avengers. She was supposed to be the leader of the team, though she often questioned whether or not Iron Man was actually the one in charge.

While things were still chaotic from the war, the shape shifting alien Skrulls invaded the Earth. They kidnapped several superheroes and took their forms, infiltrating most of Earth society. The Skrulls were discovered and a battle broke out, leading to the defeat of the Skrulls but massive destruction all over Earth. Because of the failure of the registered superheroes to protect the Earth, Norman Osborn was given government power and formed his own team of Avengers. The former Avengers were considered criminals and had to go into hiding or risk arrest. The new team of Avengers were former criminals that Osborn had bribed into joining him. They had taken the names of several former Avengers including Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Spiderman, Captain Marvel and Wolverine. Carol fought the fake Ms. Marvel several times but was often too busy with other things to really finish the job.

During this time, Carol received a note from Ghazi Rashid, the man who had tortured her while she was in Afghanistan and who she had thought was dead. It turned out the note was actually from Rossi, her former boyfriend who she had also believed was dead. Rossi had discovered that not only was Rashid alive but he had managed to get his hands on Ascension. He needed Carol's help to bring Rashid down and she agreed. They tracked Rashid to Hong Kong where he was attending a party, which Carol adopted a fake identity to infiltrate. She confronted Rashid angrily, saying that seeing him had reawakened all the feelings of her past that she thought she had lost. She fought him but it turned out that Ascension was actually a project to create superpowers, which he now had. During the fight Carol overloaded her powers, which had already been exhausted after the battle with the Skrulls, and exploded. She managed to at least take Rashid with her though she wasn't around the see the results of the whole event.

Her death had been planned from the beginning by Rossi, who was working with Osborn. He himself was then betrayed and killed by Osborn, who used Carol's death as a springboard for his own Avengers. It was several weeks before Carol resurfaced, not really dead but split up into four energy forms that represented her powers. Spiderman, Spiderwoman and Wolverine gathered the energy forms together and united them, effectively bringing Carol back to life. She wasn't completely whole though, as the explosion and the interference of a mutant known as Storyteller had created a separate entity named Catherine Donovan that was basically Carol's human side. Karla, the fake Ms. Marvel, tracked down and almost killed Catherine but was stopped by Carol. Catherine and Carol united and made Carol whole again. Carol then fought and finally defeated Karla but instead of killing her like she wanted to gave her a chance to turn her life around.

Once that all settled down and sensing that his own Avengers were in trouble, Osborn created an excuse to attack the kingdom of the gods, Asgard, which was floating above a town in Oklahoma. The Avengers interfered to help their friend Thor and battled Osborn's Avengers. They won after a long fight, though they were not able to prevent Asgard from falling. The city was destroyed but Osborn had been exposed for what he really was. The government immediately removed him from power and arrested his Avengers, reinstating the original Avengers. Captain America took a job as a world security officer and Luke Cage was given leadership of the New Avengers, which Carol this time joined. Things went back to normal and everyone was working on going back to their original jobs as protectors, all while cleaning up from the war.

Roleplay Sample - Log:
When you think of superheroes, you probably think of someone who is always moving. Someone who's strong, determined and just never stops. Someone who would never spend a perfectly decent Saturday stretched out on their sofa eating ice cream and marathoning the Harry Potter movies. At least this is the typical image of a superhero, one that would be incredibly inaccurate in the case of Ms. Marvel. At least for today it's inaccurate. Today Carol is very much doing all of those things because why not? It's not like she has anything better to do right now. That and everyone needs a day to just be lazy. Besides, she hasn't seen the first Harry Potter movie in forever and this pint of ice cream isn't going to eat itself.

Not that either of those things are exactly vital but they're what she's doing. Maybe they're vital to her sanity, what's left of it at least, who can really say. If someone wants her to do something they should really say so soon since she's dangerously close to being completely comfortable this way. Also her pint of ice cream is about half gone, which really can't be healthy, but it's chocolate fudge and so good. Tony paid for it so it's not like she even wasted her own money on something that she's going to finish off in one sitting. This is about the point Jessica would be teasing her for being a lump but, oh look, Jessica isn't around. Which for now Carol is thankful for because she doesn't want to share her ice cream. The chocolately goodness is all her and no one can tell her otherwise. Although, she would like it if Jess was here because then she could make her say quotes from the movie. It's much more amusing when Jessica does it and she's not even really sure why.

Eventually the ice cream is gone and the movie gets boring, leaving Carol to sigh loudly and hang half off the couch. "Maybe this is a sign that I should actually get up from the couch." But like hell that's happening. Instead she settles for continuing to hang off the couch and watch her cat wander around the room. It'd be fun to be a cat. To have no cares in the world because someone else provided everything you needed. When you think about it, being an Avenger was kind of like being Tony's cat, since he gave them everything they needed. Though...that was kind of an awkward train of thought so maybe she should just stop. Seriously, Carol, get off your ass. Your mind goes to weird places when you're not doing anything.

"Okay, yeah, time to get up." She rolls gracelessly to the floor and just lays there for a minute, staring at the ceiling, before finally standing and stretching her arms above her head. "Time to find something at least a little constructive to do."

Roleplay Sample - Journal:
[There is a very annoyed looking blonde woman on screen when the video comes on, sitting with her back against one of the white walls. She huffs, blowing a strand of hair out of her face before speaking]

I've been taken prisoner again, haven't I? Great. Because that hasn't happened enough in my life already. Eventually the universe will stop thinking this joke is funny. [Because it's not funny. It was never funny]

Though I've never heard of a prison handing out communicators. That's pretty weird. And the collar, but that's probably some kind of power dampener. This place kind of looks like the Negative Zone prison but that was a SHIELD thing and I can't think of what I could've done to piss them off[A pause] This time. Besides, all that crap was settled after the war.

So who could be behind this? AIM? HYDRA? Neither of those really make sense. This isn't really their style. Who else....and I'm talking to myself. Good job seeming sane, Carol. Anyway, the point to...whatever that was is: What the hell is going on? Yeah, that about covers it.

This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?
This isn't the first time she's been kidnapped and tortured. Last time it happened, she ran away from ever facing the problems it caused her. At this point in her life she's much more determined to actually deal with things and not run away. Not to mention that she'll be determined to help everyone else, which should keep her head above water.

Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here.
Oh my god.
